Whitmore's Landscaping SuperCross Cup
October 6-7, 2007
This is the first race report of the 2007-2008 cyclocross season. I’d like to thank all of our great sponsors for the support and introduce our team this year as: IF/Wheelworks/SRAM presented by General Catalyst.
After a good hard training session on Wednesday last week, I woke up on Thursday to pick up our friend Megan Elliott at the airport. I was feeling very sore and had a headache and thought it must be a chilly day as I pulled on my fleece and sweatshirt. It was actually quite warm out which meant I must have a fever. After picking up Megan and canceling my clients, I crawled into bed for the entire day. Things were not looking good for Saturday and Sunday’s races.
I was feeling human on Friday and went to work, ran errands and went for a short ride and then was completely exhausted. Saturday morning at 5am we left to head to CT to board a short ferry to Long Island for the races. Now I think I was feeling sore from spending a day in bed! I was nervous about racing and didn’t know what to expect for the day so I gave it my all and was able to place 5th. I felt terrible on the bike but was comforted to know that I was able to hang in there despite being less than 100%.
Sunday’s race ended early for me as I charged hard on the first lap and quickly felt all the energy in my body disappear. After the second lap, I pulled out of the race opting to save my energy for rest and recovery so that I could be back in top shape for the next weekend of racing. Congrats to Megan for her 6th and 4th place finishes this weekend!
